Types of Depression

There are four main types of depression and different types of depression often have slightly different symptoms and/or different treatments.

·       Major depression – Is when a person is in a depressed mood for around two weeks. This is also called clinical depression or Unipolar depression.

·       Psychotic depression – Is a state of depression when a person’s depression includes psychosis (Haalucinations-viewing things that are not real; feeling paranoia-feeling like everyone is against you and having delusions.)

·       Dysthymia – Is a depression that lasts a very long time-perhaps years- but is less severe.

·       Mixed depression and anxiety – Is when a person has combined anxiety and depression symptoms.

·       Bipolar disorder - Involves polar opposite moods: Highs (a euphoria) and lows (deep depression).
